The entire planet was blown apart and only chunks remained, and the remaining chunk that was repopulated by the fairies and mutants contained a museum filled with artifacts from the Hitler regieme

There's lots of old junk in the church where the two soldiers go looking for priests.
It's all western culture stuff but it isn't only Reich swag.

reply

i haven't seen the movie in about 4 years (i can't find it on dvd anywhere can anyone help?) but could it not be assumed the reason there's all nazi stuff is that they WON WWII as oppose to losing it? therefore of course stuff like that would have survived and it can be assumed that many other symbols of other cultures would have been destroyed.

That's what I kind of dislike about Wizards. It kind of singles out one culture, man. That ain't cool. That's exactly propaganda.

reply

what the hell do you mean singles out one culture? Naziism ISN"T a culture.
it's a totally misguided view on life.
what the hell are people saying going on about Wizards being propaganda? maybe you should READ up what propaganda means before you use it... general rule. dont use words you dont understand...
in your case i think you're limited to words of 5 letters or less.

Culture n. Societal transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought.

As aberrational as Nazism is it does comprise these aspects.

And, Kazin19, you trying to hawk your phony public information service and even goofier instruction giving. Don't make the mistake in thinking you can cut it as a comedian, because you'd probably catch a brick in your face. The only line you're going to be standing in....is the one for bread, because you're all crumby. You might even catch a loaf, deja vu, in your ugly face.

I agree.

They claimed that creating fear would help them defeat their enemies, but projecting film images couldn't be anymore frightening than actual war - which is what they were waiting to engage in while sitting in the trenches.

I usually have a problem watching fantasy films when you have wizards with limitless powers at certain times within the plot. It their powers are limitless, there is really no tension. In the scene where Avatar and Eleanor are walking in the snow. Why couldn't the wizard just manifest a warm shelter or something. He could, and that is the point. There is really never a dilemma when you can pretty much make anything happen at any point in time to serve your needs.

Fantasy too often relies on an audience that simply enjoys a story without any critical thought. This works well for children, but as we grow older we need more.

Thank you for articulating what I hated most about this movie, greekgrandfather. It is a collossal waste of time, 'one huge plothole with a backstory that made no sense'. I wanted to like it. I fell asleep. I got angry at all the missed opportunities, during the parts when I was awake. I face palmed when I saw the huge swastika, and figured well maybe Bakshi is jewish and has some personal issues to work out. I even gritted my teeth when Elinore ended up with the old man instead of the young man, it looked like sloppy wish fulfillment, a man who couldn't let go of the past.

But mostly I was upset at the 'one huge plothole with a backstory that made no sense'.

Wizards needs a major re-write and remake.

Obviously they were all inferior and didn't stand the test of time.
