Could have been huge.

Now if J. Lee Tompson had the best camera work and effects for this, it would have been better and huge. It looks too fake for it's own good. Buy didn't MGM put there money into it for. Because Charlie was huge when he did this. I mean it could have been a serious western about Wild bill.

The White Buffalo of the story looked fake, and there should have been more hot action between Charlie Bronson and Kim Novak...

I disagree. I thought it was great.

Camera work: Very good scenics, and I really liked the way the camera dollied and craned down during action shots (sort of zooming in). The final location looked haunting.

The Buffalo: Sorry folks, I loved the roar. It was a cool sound and was real menacing (sounding scarier than the T-Rex from Jurrasic Park). If the beast just honked or moo'd that would have been boring.

The Effects: For the 1970's, they rock. Look at Jaws today and talk to me how real it looked. Back then, audiences were impressed. As a matter of fact, I think it looks better than any modern CGI creation right now.

I may be the minority in this view, but that's how I feel.

Exactly!!!

Count me in your minority, RABerg66. I've loved this film since I first saw it on HBO back in the '80's. The cinematography is incredible; especially during the gunfight with Kileen.

Many UFO/ghost skeptics are actually afraid it's all true and don't want it to be.

I disagree to agree. How many films had a mechanical creature that could run? That is spOOky and enchanting in a nightmarish way. Plus you have the animaltronic face

Cinematography and effects are the easy or technical bits, the story and content always determine the success.

I don't care what the cash total was or who else liked it or any of that I merely expressed my like for it. Whether its considered to be well done or not, the buffalo prop worked well enough for me to not be looking to see if it was fake but letting me enjoy it in the context of the film. If you consider my taste inferior to yours, that's your right. Maybe it is.

This came out the same time Star Wars did. Westerns were not selling at all, and MGM/UA was looking at it's newest stars, like Sylvester Stallone, so, you're right that it didn't get much of a push, but I was working at the movie theater then (later owned my own video store) and it did decent business.

One funny thing, this was NEVER released on VHS, and yet was one of the most requested movies ever.

If we all liked the same movie, there'd only be one movie!
