Tom Custer

In this movie, why does Tom Custer have a Southern accent? The Custers, as I understand, were from Michigan, and fought for the Union in the Civil War.
Also, Tom lacks hair, whereas the Custers were distinguished by plentiful hair and whiskers.

yes that is weird, no doubt, and you are correct he fought for the union don't why has that accent, im a pretty much western buff so i know even to its accuracy was poor it was a ok western film.

Let's see, I think I can explain this...

But if we don't care about accuracy in movies, where will it end? We'd have ancient Roman gladiators riding on motorbikes; an Eskimo as the first man on the moon; Titanic survivors getting rescued by the Baywatch team!

I'd watch all of those!

Custer was drinking at the time, so maybe his speech was just slurred. As for his hair, he was regular army and not a general like his brother. He had to follow the rules a little more closely. Besides, maybe George took after their mother.

Just my two cents.

If we all liked the same movie, there'd only be one movie!

I know that after the Civil War Gen Custer was stationed in Texas to help protect the carpetbag administration. The southern military occupation was over by 1876 as part of a political deal. Custer rode a beautiful horse he got in Texas for peanuts as part of confiscated property. He did pay a few dollars so you can't call it theft. This doesn't justify a southern accent though.

Anyplace Custer went in the army, his brothers went too.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else
