ok, and the eventual DVD?

So much for the super obscure/hard to find vinyl soundtrack. When is this ever going to come out on DVD? I asked him a couple or so years back when he was touring with "Secret Lives Of Dentists", and he had no idea. Actually seemed bemused anyone was inquiring

I agree, I've been waiting and hoping that it will be released on dvd soon.

I found a used worn out VHS copy at a video store once and almost bought it... but I didn't...now I wish I did. I'm waiting for a DVD release now!

reply

i can't believe this movie is not out on DVD...

i love this movie!

call me a perv, but the topless scenes with Sissy Spacek are worth the price of admission

but also... this is a Robert Altman flick!

how dare they not bring out all his movies on DVD!

have they lost their friggin minds?

aha... checked Amazon... the one reviewer agrees with me completely...
and... good news... sorta... there are 10 used VHS tapes available as of today (Sept. 2006), ranging in price from $13.66 (crappy condition, don't buy), most in good condition for $20 bucks, and even one at asking price $60 bucks... most seem to be from rental stores... all of them used, none new...

Lionsgate! can you hear me shouting!?!

LIONSGATE! UNITED ARTISTS! CAN YOU HEAR ME SHOUTING!?! HAVE YOU LOST YOUR FRIGGIN MINDS!?! YOU GOTTA RELEASE 'WELCOME TO L.A.' ON DVD!! PERIOD! DO IT!

GET OFF YOUR BUTTS AND MAKE THIS DVD!! WHAT'S IT GONNA COST? 50 CENTS FOR THE DVD? A BUCK FOR THE BOX? MAKE FILM BUFFS EVERYWHERE HAPPY!!

I'm went right to it and signed the petition. Thank you. Welcome To LA is one of the special film experiences of my youth. I had the soundtrack and played it so often. (What happened to it?) Anyway, thanks for your leadership.

I have the vinyl. Haven't played it in years.
Saw the movie several times back in the day and would LOVE to see it again.
I wish I had a way to transfer it to cd for you.
If I find a way, I'll contact you.

A pan and scan version was on Encore a few nights ago. Since UA holds the rights to it, I wouldn't be surprised if MGM Home Video came out with a widescreen release in the near future, as well as an HD presentation on the MGMHD channel.

reply

See it now on Fancast

Here in the U.S. 'WELCOME TO L.A.' has now been out-of-print for 25 years.

The CBS/Fox Video I have was released in 1984 and the movie hasn't been re-released since.

A few other CBS/Fox Video releases only made available on VHS as of 6/10/09 >
INCIDENT, The (1967)
HAIL, HERO (1969)
ADAM AT 6 A.M. (1970)
GORDON'S WAR (1973)
WELCOME TO L.A. (1976)
FRIENDLY FIRE (1979-Tvm)
WORLD WAR III (1982-Tvm)

I also want to buy it on dvd.

If Warner Bros. own it, I'd imagine it'll see a Warner Archives release as Rudolph's Made In Heaven was quietly released this year on that disgracefully overpriced burn to dvd-r to order format.

reply

Well Screen Archives ltd have stock of the USA MGM made on demand dvd-r release. In its original widescreen aspect ratio format, 16x9 enhanced and looks pretty good considering its received no restoration.
