I have looked everywhere on the net from TowerRecords to learmedia.ca and can't find this on CD - would also love to know where I could buy a copy...

I, too, have just started searching for the soundtrack to Welcome To LA...and came across you guys also searching. I wonder why NOW, of all times, to be thinking of this music? Could it be because a Carradine brother is promoting a TV show?

What a shame I once had the LP but it got warped from the heat and I wish I could find a CD version.

Go on to eBay! I have two vinyl album copies that I bidded on. Some guy was selling one for $14.00 and a couple days later someone was selling on for $3.00. I had bidded on both of them and didn't want to screw up my eBay record so I just bought both...

If you love Keith's lilting voice, this record is for you. Piano and Keith is about all you here. KC released two albums of his own material in the seventies. One album called "I'm Easy".. which contains the obvious song, and another called "Lost an Found" he wrote all but a few of the songs on each record. My personal favorites of both records are "High Sierra Trail" off the first and "Homeless Eyes" off the second. KC wrote an absolutely lovely ballad for a film called "Maria's Lovers" back around '86 (It's a foreign film.) He wrote a song for Dirk Benedict's "Cahoots" back in 2000, and sang "Sweet Peaches" in Ballad of the Sad Cafe back in 90. He writes a pretty good song. I love Wecome to LA soundtrack. Go into Amazon or half.com or something. You'll find'em!
AND try to find the Broadway soundtract to "The Will Rogers Follies" - He sings some wonderful stuff on there! All these recording are on CD... good luck ya'll

Don't get fooled, the soundtrack has never been released on cd!

I have had it on vinyl LP for years. It's packed away in a box at the back of my closet because I don't use my turntable any more...

Hi, saw your post since we are both seeking the same thing. I did find a 45 with the suite at www.cdandlp.com. If you do get it, I know where it can be put on a CD...

Come on - that song throughout the movie is ANNOYING...
Self-indulgent, pointless, never-ending, repetitive. Blah....
Horrible - like Jim Morrison without a brain.
Once again - Music and Movies don't go together
- Music is a purely individual art and depends on unique personalities
- Movies are make believe of fictional characters

Quite frankly, the music made the film unwatchable!

Totally disagree. I have worked in the radio industry for 30 years, at stations that played current hits, so I am not ignorant about music. While the soundtrack is certainly not commercial, I thought it was superb musically. To simply trash it as not good is YOUR opinion. I happen to disagree strongly.

For what it's worth, it is my alltime favorite singer-songwriter soundtrack (I hated the Carradine versions of Baskin's songs...Carradine did 2...on the album).

I wore my album on this out and had transferred it to cassette, which is long lost.

Trash it if you like, Baskin had some amazing songs and orchestrations....

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter and City of the One-Night Stands are just 2 of the terrific songs on there.

They do work better, listening to it on an album, then the way it was incorporated in the movie.

I really hope this comes out on both DVD and CD, but I won;t hold my breath.

Baskin was Barbra Streisand's boyfriend for a time, so, who knows...

I'm not surprised that a guy that has been working in Top 40 radio for 30 years thought the soundtrack was quality stuff. It's like a parody of bad singer-songwriting from the 1970's. I think somebody mentioned it reminded them of Dan Hill? Spot on.

P.S. Isn't Richard Baskin heir to the Baskin-Robbins fortune?

reply

I'm not surprised that a person hiding behind a keyboard will throw insults at other people based on subjective judgements, stereotypes and generalizations and think his comments are quality stuff.

I did not just work at top 40 radio and Baskin's music would never be played on a hit station.

If you think it was a parody, fine, it's not your style. I happen to love his voice.

For the record, the man performed on SNL that year. They must have been totally deceived to have subjected their audience to him,eh?

He also, fwiw, dated Streisand for quite awhile that decade. And yes, I do believe he was an heir to the Baskin Robbins money. I have no idea what he has been up to.

reply

So this Richard Baskin is heir to the Baskin-Robbins "31 Flavors" ice cream fortune? Well, his music has just ONE flavor -- CRAP!

reply

I also thought the music sucked. But that one song about the heart being a lonely hunter kind of grew on me.

Richard Baskin (whatever happened to him anyway? and does anybody care?) has got to be one of the most untalented singer-songwriters ever. His pointless, rambling songs, sung in that horrible nasal droning voice, could be used to extract information from suspected terrorists. "No! Not Richard Baskin again! I prefer waterboarding!"

reply

It's all about taste. I thought his vocals were terrific, but they worked better on the soundtrack, than the way they were incorporated into the movie.

After this flick he did date Streisand for awhile.

I suppose a google search should show you what he is up to.

Am I missing something about the greatness of the soundtrack? The music is like a parody of "A Mighty Wind" (which is already a parody). The reason why I kept watching the movie was for Richard Baskin's take on LA life. "LA, place of one night stands", paraphrased of course but you get the idea. Let's see now... oh the voice! Can he give more effort in the singing? I also researched that our singer/songwriter Rich wrote some music on "Nashville". Man, his singing is so just "inspired". I'll have to watch this movie again with a bottle of Courvoisier, fancy glass on one hand, and polyester pants.

Been combing the Net for a while without any luck (other than used vinyl copies). I'm surprised that no one has created mp3s of the "Welcome to L.A." soundtrack yet. I too would love to get my hands on these tunes.
