Wayne + Dee Dee at the end of the movie...

When Wayne and Dee Dee are sitting on the bed (after his arrival in NYC)and they are talking about their reasons for getting married, Wayne says "hey, I got what I wanted." Dee Dee hesitates and then says "so did I." However, she looks so sad and miserable in that scene that I always have a hard time believing that she really means it. Also, what's with the one-night-stand with Rosie? Are we to assume that Wayne never finds out? I feel like the movie never really tied up the loose ends of their story.

I think there's a part of Deedee that will always regret losing that role to Emma all those years ago because she got pregnant, though I don't think she would ever tell Wayne, not wanting to hurt him. You also have to remember that Wayne was a dancer in the same company and gave up his career to marry Deedee and raise their child. They both gave up dreams. And I'm just as sure that Emma has regrets about devoting her life to dance and forsaking the idea of a husband and family. It's these choices and what they mean which are the heart of the film. I didn't like the fact that Deedee slept with Rosie either and I'd like to think that Wayne never finds out because it would crush him...I think that would hurt him more than the thought of Deedee giving up her career for him and Amelia.
