That's what I'm thinking too!
I just caught this on HBO and thought it was a pretty good film, but was amazed to come here and see 11 Oscar noms. Especially the one for Leslie Browne as Best Supporting Actress... she's a fine dancer but...

More than half of the nominations for Turning Point pale in comparison to the other nominees that year. As much as I love Anne Bancroft and enjoy Shirley MacLaine, these were not performances that were as Oscar-worthy as some others they've done. And Mikhail Baryshnikov? Much like Leslie Browne, wonderful dancing but "best" acting???

It was no surprise that there was not a winner in any of the 11 categories.

Deep down I'm pretty superficial.

Leslie Browne actually ACTS in this film, and very well. The same can't be said about Mikhail, though.

I just watched it for the first time and I'm really amazed it got 11 nominations, especially for the supporting nods. I agree that Bancroft and Maclaine have been even better elsewhere.

Six inches is perfectly adequate. Anymore is vulgar!
