Killer whale sock puppets!

The special effects were incredible. I watched the last 15 minutes, and those killer whale sock puppets were awesome! I also loved the realistic underwater rockslide and creature sound effects.

Another underwater mess you may enjoy is "Latitude Zero". Such greatness must not be forgotten!

I loved how the footage switched back & forth between shots of a real (and quite obviously a very SMALL) octopus that, naturally, appears wet, slimy and extremely flexible, to huge, dry-looking, differently-colored and very stiff and rubber mechanical tentacles. Whenever they show shots of the huge rubber tentacles, I noticed that where the octopus' body was supposed to be, it was always obscured by something like the bottom of a boat, seaweed, rocks, or the body was in the dark cave area that is its lair, with just huge tentacles coming out of it. A lot of scenes were too dark to see the body. In fact, I doubt they even bothered making a fake body. The extent of the fake octopus seemed to be the tentacles only, and any footage they required for close-ups of the body, or larger shots showing the entire octopus, they used the real octopus and just threw in a toy boat nearby for scale. The perceived size of the beast itself actually seems to fluctuate throughout the movie.

There were only 3 shots that looked remotely realistic. One was the shot of the octopus attacking one of the sailboats from below.

The other cool thing was the prop they used for when it sticks it's head up out of the water. It was very effective when the fat dude is swimming and the octopus' eyes come up to watch him.

But the scariest moment in the entire movie was when the diver looks over and sees the octopus staring at him inside the diving bell. THat one still get's me.

That's because if ANY octopus glared at you like that, it'd be creepy. Octopus eyes are very creepy looking...you know there's intelligence behind them. And the one thought in its mind is likely, "hmmm...how do I crack this open?" (meaning, the diver).

The effect "almsot" worked, the fins on the whales really should've moved a little and some matte work could've inserted real killer whales into an octopus shot.

uhm didnt they actually use real orcas and an octopus cadaver???that and the baby scene were the only good parts of the movie to me....if you can enjoy it thats totally fine...I'm a sucker for animal horror flicks but this one was poorly executed...cinematography and editing and that music ruined it for me
