Coming to US MOD DVD-R on July 23rd, 2013

Finally, this rare crime film will be released by Warner Archives on a MOD DVD-R. Reportedly, it will be in widescreen 2:35-1. The street date is July 23rd, 2013. I'll report back here when I've seen a copy of the product.

Sam Waterston looks about 18 years old in this film. I went to college in Tacoma, Washington. This was filmed around Tacoma just after I graduated, so there is a major nostalgia factor for me. This film has never been on US home video before. I believe that it was once released on UK VHS, but in full-frame.

I did when it was on TV in probably 1980-something. My brief review is posted on IMDb, from what I recall about it. I really enjoyed it at the time. Of course some other old movies I once enjoyed didn't hold up so well when I've seen them again, so I'm probably not going to spend about $20 to see this one now.

I saw the film first-run back in 1976, but haven't seen it since. It's a comedy/drama about an immoral young woman (Stockard Channing) who's involved with a small gang of car thieves. Sam Waterston plays an inexperienced public defender who tries to keep her out of trouble, which isn't easy.

Few people have seen the film, because it was never released on US home video or shown on US TV stations. Who would like it? I'd say that it appeals to fans of Channing and Waterston, fans of the director, 1970's cinema completists, and people like me who collect movies that were filmed in Seattle and Tacoma, WA.

UPDATE: the film is indeed in 2:35-1, with excellent imagery. I'm very happy with this disc, and never expected to have the film in proper widescreen.
