You'll never see the original anymore.

George Lucas spent decades revamping and adjusting the originals so much that you'll never see them unless you have them on VHas or Beta.

People blame the modern Star Wars movies.
George Lucas did a lot of damage on his own.

Star Wars died in 1983.

I got the original SW from piratebay some time ago.

F George Lucas.

Who really fucking cares??? but a few man children that cannot let go of the past. A New Hope is not that great a film. The enhancements make it better. Just get over it man.

I've got 'em as DVD extras on some discs released in the early 2000s. They're letterboxed, but other than that, it's Star Wars!

So I see it a lot.

Theres actually two ways to get them. The "despecialized edition" or someone managed to get there hands on the 45mm prints.. but I find the color grading ridiculously weird on these compared to harmys

I managed to "find" a crystal clear copy online of a dvd quality version for a real fan friend of mine, he said that the only difference between it and the 1977 original is a few seconds of cgi!!

reply

I will see the originals as I've got them on VHS and have had them put on to disc.

Hey! Have you not heard of the 4k77 and 4k83 project? they are truly beautiful. the 4k83 (ROTJ) looks a lot better because they managed to get prints very close to the original negative. but ANH still looks impressive.

Yeah but I'm pretty sure what you describe is not being done by Disney who now owns it. So it isn't legit. Also I heard when selling it to Disney, Lucas put a clause in the contract that they couldn't ever release the original versions because he hates them and doesn't wish for them to ever be released. I do think he's kind of a jerk for that though. I myself like the Special Edition and haven't watched the original versions in decades. But I wouldn't mind the original version of the Special Edition where the Emperor hadn't been changed in Empire Strikes back and where the actor for old Anakin didn't get changed to Hayden Christinson.

[quoteAlso I heard when selling it to Disney, Lucas put a clause in the contract that they couldn't ever release the original versions because he hates them and doesn't wish for them to ever be released.[/quote]That's a rumor spread on message boards, but I have yet to see any legitimate source that confirms this.

What about Empire? That's the one I care most.

reply

Supposedly, it's coming. In the meantime, Harmy's Despecialized cut is the next best thing.

reply

Honestly, Empire was touched the least. In fact, I'm pretty sure the only change he made was extending the Snow Monster and, that's it. Unless he extended the cave/inside of the monster sequence. It's been too long since I watched the VHS tapes of the special editions.

reply

Well, the biggest damage was done to the end chase sequence when Lucas used the shuttle footage from Return of the Jedi and destroyed totally the pacing (and introduction of the shuttle in ROTJ). Also the extra dialogue between Vader and Emperor was unnecessary (or audience has become dumber during the last 40 years). And I'm not a fan of CGI:ed cloud city views either. Yes, its true that the empire suffered least damage, but it was damaged anyway and I'd prefer the original version. The changes Lucas made to Empire were totally unnecessary.
