Instead of changing who shoots first

Why didn't Lucas just throw the whole Greedo scene out of the film? All the information Greedo gives is also given by Jabba, so we'd really lose nothing if we didn't have the Greedo scene.

Actually, loose the Jabba scene and fix the Greedo scene.

Lolz. I see what you tit there

The Greedo scene (at least the original) is ICONIC and FAMOUS. You cannot cut it out.
What CAN be cut out is the Jabba scene that shouldn't have been there in the first place, and indeed wasn't in the original. It's probably the only SE addition that I think is pointless, as the dialogue is literally repeated from just a few minutes before and was probably only included so that Lucas could show off his (admittedly crap) CGI. AND it ruins Jabba by having him move around like a giant slug, when only a few years later he would be slabridden in his palace.

reply

Yeah. This is because they ended up moving dialogue from the Jabba scene to the Greedo scene when they realized the Jabba scene wasn't going to be in the movie. That's why some the the exact same dialogue is in both scenes when Lucas added it back. The movie is better without the Jabba scene.

Losing the jabba scene and having Han shoot Greedo before Greedo tries to kill him makes the most sense. Should have left it alone!

I maybe in the minority but I liked the Jabba scene. As a kid when watching the movies for the first time I didn't even get to know who Jabba really was until Return of the Jedi. I actually like that he was put into this film briefly with the special edition. Not that i agree with Lucas refusing to allow the original theatrical versions to be released on DVD and Bluray in good format. Now that Disney owns Fox and Lucas films they can finally release the theatrical versions of the films on DVD/Bluray.

It's cool to see as a curiosity, but really breaks the flow of the film. And I agree, had Lucas just kept releasing both versions, no one would care so much....
