Darth Vader and Luke at Tatooine...

Why did not Vader look for Luke (and may be Obi- Wan too) at Tatooine? I think that should have been for him from the beginning a feasible option to be considered...

That line in episode 3 is still so stupid. But of course the real reason is that there wouldn't be a movie if that happened.

reply

I agree stupid line but to be honest I don't like the beach and this is exactly why.

reply

Because he didn't even know Luke existed. And why would Obi-Wan go to Tatooine?

Besides, Vader/Anakin hated that planet and never wished to return to it. I wonder if he realized how close they were to it at the start of ANH.

reply

Good answer, that about sums it up. He was told his wife and child died because of him and he just had no real reason to return to the planet. Also If you notice in Return of the Jedi during his fight with Luke he did not realize until that point that Luke had a sister, and since his wife was only pregnant once this meant it had to be a twin sister. This shows just how little Vader actually knew about the specifics of Padme's death. ah what a terrible name.

reply

Remember, Anakin/Vader wasnt all that bright.

It never even occurred to him to ask whether Padme's babies survived her, how dumb can you be.

reply

At her funeral, she looks 9 months pregnant, so everyone is led to believe that she died before her child (no one knew she was pregnant with twins) was born.

reply

On this planet at least, it's been possible for a late-term fetus to outlive its mother since ancient times, like Republican Rome ancient. Anyone with any education or intelligence would know that Padme was far enough along that the baby/babies might have been saved!

Palpatine had to know, he was smart, he'd have made inquiries. But of course he'd keep the information from Vader for his own reasons, and Vader really was a bit dim. He used the Force and brutality, he never thought a damn thing out.

reply

Oh, sure, but her body was made to look as though she was still pregnant and buried with her unborn child.

Palpatine did know, didn't he? He knew something at least, because in the original version of Empire he said, "The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi."

reply

I love Palpatine! And I love that he's one of the few characters in Star Wars bright enough to be aware of the existence of both c-sections and pillows.

I wonder when and how Palpatine clued Vader in? Because yes, first he mentioned "the son of Skywalker" in "Empire", and Vader knew that Luke was his son on Bespin. But there was no sign of a clue in the 1st film, or any hint of an Imperial eye being kept on Tattooine.

reply

Why did Luke use his last name of Skywalker if he was to be put in hiding?

reply

This is the major question!

Further proof that Vader wasn't meant to be Lukes father.
