Sick of Roger getting trashed!
This week, Buzzfeed did a poll to "finally settle" the "Best Bond" debate. Naturally, Connery won with (as of writing this), 38%, Craig came in 2nd with 29%, & Brosnan 3rd with 25%. Coming in last with a distant 1% was Lazenby, while Roger got 5%.
He wasn't *dead* last, but I still don't get it. Roger's Bond films did exceedingly well at the box office in the 70's. Admittedly, the last 2 of the 80's were lacking. But he's still the longest-running Bond. If he truly did a lousy job & audiences hated him, they wouldn't have kept him. Sure, they were often a little goofy (but as has been said, you can say that pattern really began with "Diamonds Are Forever")
Maybe people who weren't around in the 70's don't appreciate the context. In the 70's, people were *looking* for escape & fun. This partially explains the rise of disco & the success of Star Wars. Roger delivered fun & escapism.
He was the perfect Bond for his time. (& besides, why do you think "Nobody Does It Better" was written for *his* Bond?) ;)
