Roger Moore showed he could have been the best bond of all
Sean Connery had more going for him than any bond. He had masculinity and danger, great looks, boyish charm, suave and sophistication, etc. Like Clark gable, he was a real man and a charming boy at the same time. No one else did that as bond. But to be fair, Connery was the most successful actor to play bond, and had more screen presence than any. Still, his last 3 films were attrocious scripts and mailed in performances
While Moore didn't have all of those qualities, when I see TSWLM and FYEO I see the mature, evolved Bond. He is more sensitive, classy, and romantic, yet still dangerous and the man for the job. Moore was extremely likeable in these films
Unfortunately, in the first 2 films, they had Moore hitting women and Doing things that really didn't fit him. Then, they saddled him with the horrible moonraker, octopussy, and view to a kill (maybe worst bond ever)
So in 7 Moore films, he had 2 good scripts, only one of which was great. I'd say he did pretty well
I think 20 years from now people will have him as the #2 bomd again
