Scared the frik outta me

Of course I was only 11 at the time and wasn't supposed to be watching it.

Scared the frik outta me too! I was 9 years old when I seen this one. When that ladies face caught on fire and she jumped out of the window. I had nightmares for months. Slept with the lights on at night for as long as I can remember.

Yes The woman coming down the stairs and burning up was extreemly "frightening" to me. that sceen just came out of nowhere unexpectedly!

I was eighteen the year it debuted. And, I loved it as much for those hot teen girls in the gym class, as the telekinetic violence.

By the way; does anybody know whatever happened to the kid-star who played Rita's younger sister?

reply

That's Helen Hunt!

I watched it on Netflix and thought it was so so. I really like the 70s look and feel to it. So cheesy. Reminds me of Trilogy of Terror. One thing, how did it end? I was not too into it and when I looked up the needlepoint thingy was in the fire. Who died? Rita or Mom? The funniest part to me was even though she was fat by today's standards she would just be considered chubby. People back then just weren't as fat as they are today. Less junk food and smaller portions...and more cocaine and cigarettes as well. I'd love to see a movie made today where a high class parent like the one Lee Grant portrayed in this movie...would be smoking at the breakfast table of her mansion. The only place you really see people smoking on tv is on the show Hoarders. Generally the hoarder in question will be chain smoking outside while the parade of priceless dolls is brought past them so they can decide which 500 to keep and which 10 can be donated to charity. Of course all 510 smell like smoke and are covered in rat, cat, and roach feces and urine. I'm sure Lee Grant would be appalled. I wonder if she still smokes.

You get what you put in, and people get what they deserve...KR

Since you say you lost interest in the film I can't figure out what you may have or have not seen except for the needlepoint project afire. So basically the final 5 minutes Rita is finally called on her bluff by her mom - who turns out has the power that Rita (and the audience) realize - duh - she INHERITED from! They do their homage to CARRIE with basically destroying much of the kitchen's dinnerware and then Rita is comforted/lulled to 'normalcy' by her mom and supposedly all is right as rain.

The End (?) :D

The chanting and the score scared me.
