Watched this a few times now but have been totally ignorant about something

At the end you see guys getting out of a taxi.
I thought they were just the bad dudes from the church mob escaping the law and ending up in the same place.
I did not recognise the second guy, OMG when you make the connection the movie gets a whole new ending....that you don't get to see.
