Hardly a comedy

I'll admit right off the top that after the first hour of the movie I kinda tuned out, but based on the hour I watched I can't understand how this is considered a classic comedy. I wasn't even close to laughing at all. My wife watched with me and we were in total agreement. Does the movie suddenly become hilarious in the second hour, or did we just totally not get the joke? And please no nasty comments, I'm being serious.

Somebody says that about every comedy. When I saw Raising Arizona, I thought it was one of the funniest films I'd seen at the time. When the movie ended, a woman stood up in the row in front of me and turned to her husband and said, "I remember when comedies were funny."

Slap Shot isn't for everyone, but when I saw it the audience was roaring with laughter, myself included.

i'm with the op on this one ... i just watched it for the first time recently, maybe i saw it 20-30 years ago back when i was a kid, but yeah, i was totally tuned out. thought i might be missing something so tried again the following day. kinda crappy film, to be honest. there's a few laughs in the 'second half' with the hanson bros still having toy cars and *beep* but it's not that funny. and it kinda goes nowhere and leaves you feeling empty. similar in tone to caddyshack, imo, another movie which everyone will swear is so hilarious but actually ... meh.

that's what i felt last night watching it, anyway.

I live in Denver and a Colorado Avalanche fan. Go to games when I can, and my buddy I go with swears by this movie. I'm watching it right now and I ain't laughing too much. Then again he's also almost 10 years older than me and seeing this movie makes me glad I was born in '81 and missed the 70s.

According to IMDb, it´s a comedy, a drama and a sports movie. Which pretty much covers all bases... and, yeah, it is indeed pretty frequently humorous.

Well it is a drama, hockey's just a funny backdrop. A fun to watch drama.

To OP:Maybe you need to develop your sense of humor. What do you consider funny?

I found this funny from the beginning. But there are one or two comedies I didn't care for at first and on a later viewing found funny.

Well, the film had its haha moments. But overall i thought it just was sad. People selling out der ideals, hanging on to hopes that are far from realistic. It's some dark *beep*
