Why did the caveman have a horn?

I noticed the Harryhausen did this in a lot of his movies. his rocs had two heads his cyclopes had horns and goat legs his medusa had a rattlesnakes body and his centaur had green skin and (I think ) one eye. Why did he feel the need to screw around with the classic immages of these creatures? Did he ever say why?

The caveman had a horn for when someone cut him off in traffic.

"Why did the caveman have a horn?"

The caveman was obviously NOT a direct ancestor of modern humans. Also, he was quite tall, much taller than any known hominids. Maybe Ray Harryhausen wanted to give the caveman a weird look and not do what the audience expected.

Probably it was artistic interpretation. Although I remember that he did once say that he gave his cyclops goat legs so the viewer would know that it's NOT a man in a suit playing the part. I like it, it makes the cyclops look part satyr. Besides I never met any two cyclops from two different stories to look alike. As for Medusa he wanted her to be more snake-like. Also Ray Harryhausen was not the first person to interpret these creatures from a different perspective. Judging from their artwork even the ancient Greeks had different concepts of what these beings looked like. Over the ages the satyr became less goat-like and more human in the Roman world.

He was not a caveman.. thats why! he was a troglodite, a mythical creature. the old prophet milanthius explains in the film..

Didn't Milanthius say he was one of man's early ancestors????

BTW- Troglodyte simply means "cave-dweller" which is NOT a mythical creature. After all, how would you explain these real-life "troglodytes" that don't even live in caves????: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Chimpanzee

Why did Trog have a horn? Well... have YOU seen Jane Seymour?

Can't believe I'm the first one to say it. Yup, I've lowered the tone. ;-)

LOL...that's true. Jane is hot.

She certainly is - and she never looked finer than she does in Eye of the Tiger. We don't get nearly enough almost-nudity in family oriented films these days!

Damn benjaminbussey, you beat me too it! I get the horn every time I see Jane Seymour...

You might have found the real answer by now, but Ray explained that he was keeping a theme to the creatures in the film. The ghouls, minaton, sabre tooth, and walrus all had accentuated horns to show a primitive side. So he continued that with Trog.
