Cristina Raines

I am watching this as I type this - Cristina Raines acting is really bad. She's so wooden she could float. And this flick is one campy ROSEMARY'S BABY clone. So bad it's...watchable...I got it from Netflix cause I saw it when I was young on TV and it scared the piss out of me. I wanted to see if the unedited version...but man, this is campy swill. What a wasted cast...

I thought her performance was a bit wooden at times, at other times she was pretty effective. She certainly was not helped by the terrible dialogue she had to work with & the fact that for most of the movie she repetitively just kept passing out and falling down or suffering from a migraine. Also though she is lovely, her scary 70s-ingenue-style skininess sort of undermined the plot for me...of course she has headaches & is passing out, she obviously is coked up and hasn't eaten for days. Have a sandwich or something for the sentinel's sake...

She has a much better role in the 80s' soap "Flamingo Road" but never was much of a star. Very pretty tho'.

I really enjoyed her performance!

I liked her as well. She just needed an acting coach. In some scenes she was magnificent, in others she lacked feeling. Overall I LOVE HER! She's great and I'm curious about a movie someone on one of these posts mentioned called Nightmares. I must check it out. I also liked Chris Sarandon paired with her. Love this film.

Part of it was her acting. But part of it was that she had absolutely NO character. That's not her fault. It's Konvitz's. She had no quirks or personality. She just sulked around the entire time and did nothing but get sick.

Evidently I watched a different film than you people because I thought she was great.

I think she was supposed to be kind of emotionless and overtaken by life and the traumas she has experienced.

It's funny to read on the trivia that Kate Jackson was asked to star in this film...Upon seeing Cristina, the first thing I thought was how similar she looked to Kate, especially with her hairstyle.

I thought she was great in here, she did okay, I think her acting was effective.

I thought the same thing. She reminded me of Kate Jackson when she played Sabrina on Charlie's Angels. Same hairstyle, and similar clothes. Even some of her facial features.

I disagree. She was very believable in the role of a successful model. She was smart, and convincingly terrified and confused about what was happening to her. The film is dated, but it is still one of the most extraordinary little creepers of the 1970s. It's shock value and strange and bizarre creepiness still knocks my socks off to this day.

I fully agree with you. I watched this movie last night for the very first time and, while it wasn't great, I thought it was quite enjoyable and atmospheric. I didn't know a thing about Christina Raines till last night, but now I think she was just beautiful in that lovely '70s style, and did a very good job as well.

Yep, she was terrible.

She's basically a Kate Jackson lookalike. To ME anyway, which is ironic since I heard that the Michael Winner tried to get Kate Jackson for this movie but he couldn't. At certain times in this movie I thought Raines was a dead ringer for Kate for sure.

reply

Her acting kind of reminds me of Pamela Sue Martin.

I kept thinking of a bad version of "Rosemary's Baby" also. The psychological "aspects" of the movie hurt it. This could have been a great horror story.

We do not abide Cristina Raines slander in my humble abode.
