6.8??? Are You Kidding Me?

How can such an Iconic movie only have a 6.8?

I was 15 when this movie came out and I remember all to well how huge it was and the influence it had.
Not too mention how great of a movie it really is.

Travolta even got a best actor nod.
This movie has been referenced a million times since it came out and still holds up today.

It should be in the top 250 ...imho

I agree... the rating is RIDICULOUSLY low.... this is a classic... it had a huge impact culturally and musically still until this day... it should be well above 8..

Films can be Iconic and bad too. I look at it as a period piece that is important but by no means a good film.

Don't know what to tell you, but it is a great movie.. new Avengers is coming out soon for you...

I never take the IMDB film ratings seriously,I don't even really consider them. I think Smokey and the Bandit from the same year rates higher on here than SNF and that is a truly awful film yet not one bad review last time I checked.

This'll hurt him more than me!

good point. its bleak, and not always on purpose. ugly faces, mediocre actors

I agree. I saw it very recently with a group of college film buffs who had heard of it but never seen it, and with one exception, who was kind of on the fence, everyone loved it. It is a time capsule of the 1970's, but the story itself, about yearning for success or something different in your life, is universal.

I agree that this movie should be ranked much higher. I think some might take into account the disco/time period element. But there is so much more to this film than just disco dancing.

reply

I was 12 and I asked my mother to take me. I never ask her for anything. She did take me and my older cousin. I remember girls at school would do that dance where you, you know, clap and turn or whatever and everyone is in sync.

At Christmas time which was right around the corner, I begged my mother to buy me the album. I never begged for anything again, not even money. I had the album until a few years ago. It skipped so bad and was falling apart. It still had the receipt for it, which was like 12 dollars in 1977.

For me, the soundtrack is one of the best ever recorded. I had all versions of it and love when one of the songs becomes a commercial!

The film has only gotten better with time, becoming a "historical content" of the 70s era. SNF rates a 10 with me. Some people will rank a movie without seeing it. They might not like John Travolta, but I thought the rating was much too low.

reply

I agree with all the remarks posted. This movie and the soundtrack defined popular culture at the time. Once upon a time Pat Boone and Liberace were popular, also. We're all getting old. The movie doesn't stand on its own.

Just because a movie is iconic, doesn't mean it's good. That being said, this movie has always been one of the great 1970s New York films to me.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

A 10 for me but it has been a personal favorite of mine for 4 decades!!
Honestly any rating below 7,5 is a crime

reply

Without the music this film is terrible. The acting is atrocious and corny.

reply

Every time I see it on TV it has a 4 star rating.

reply

Yeah, the rating is completely ridiculous. This is a great movie.
