You can hate disco and still like this movie

I am a rock and roller and much has always been made over the soundtrack any time this movie comes up. I watched this movie a few nights ago for the first time in over 30 years and I realized that you can hate the soundtrack and still get a lot from this movie.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!

After seeing this movie at almost age 50 I have come to feel that:

A. The movie had very few likable characters

B. The movie had two very tragic characters - Annette and Joey

C. There was (probably) unintended humor in this movie - All of those women just getting Tony for sex??!! Come on now...!!

D. Tony and Stephanie really did help each other. Step made Tony want to rise above his current situation and Tony made Stephanie see that a lot of people she was dealing with daily really weren't her friends.

This is a very complex movie about life and the difficulties that come with being a young adult.

Was Joey tragic? He seemed relatively well-adjusted...none of Double J's anger issues, none of Tony's desire to get out...

Maybe you meant Bobby? He was a sad character.

I absolutely despise disco but I love this movie, I am mature enough to realize that there is more to the film than just a soundtrack and dancing.

The real reason the rock & roll guys hate disco is because rock, which used to be dance music in the 1960s, had turned into stationary listening music with just a little head-shaking or foot-tapping by the early 1970s, and their girlfriends wanted to dance with the Disco dudes, WOULD go dance with the disco dudes behind their backs and then leave them behind because it was more fun to be with the Disco crowd. If the rock guys wrote more funky boogie-rock music like they used to in the 1960s and grooved to their own dances, instead of just standing around like robots, the whole rock vs disco and rock is for macho guys & disco is for homos animosity would have never happened, since more of their women would have stayed with them. lol The whole New-Wave vs. Hard-Rock animosity of the 1980s would also have been less pronounced.

I like rock and disco, I ain't gonna choose. Disco Duck would have sucked regardless if it was Rock or Disco
