"Sober" applies to toxic puke-inducing drugs like alcohol, not anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic herbs like Sweet Leaf. Without being able to relax, there is no such thing as balance, and without balance there is no such thing as a successful "dance" or knowing-of-ledges (knowledge) of any kind, including the deeper understanding that translates into getting the most out of cinematic works of art. TV shows, even the best ones like Sopranos and whatnot, are mediocre at best, compared to films like "Saturday Night Fever," "Taxi Driver." John Travolta's performance in this film is as good as any performance De Niro or Pacino ever did and beyond, regardless of what a prostitute he has turned into in recent years. De Niro has turned into a hooker too, so hardly anyone from the 1970s is still doing that level of work.

Artistically speaking, the best movies of today are NOTHING, absolute amateur hour, regardless of how much money and hi-tech crap is spent on them, compared to the best films of the 1970s. And so "politically correct," weak, phony and unrealistic, it's laughable. Nowadays they are about 90% propaganda, 10% art if you're lucky, whereas in the 1970s the ratio of brainwashing propaganda to t-root mining art was 60/40 in favor of art. "Saturday Night Fever" was done as a labor of love and as "art." Everyone involved, including Travolta and the Bee Gees, were completely surprised at the level of popularity and the iconic status it achieved in such a short period of time. This film did not start "the Disco craze" by any means, it just re-kindled a craze that was in its waning days for a few more years and by around 1981, old-school funk-based Disco was already "dead" and post-punk New-Wave had taken over the dance clubs.
