The bridge

The Verrazano-Narrows bridge, which is highly profiled in the film, is seen by Tony as a "way out" of Brooklyn (particularly Bay Ridge), to a "better" life, presumably in Manhattan. As Stephanie explained, "everything is different, right across the bridge".

But, the Narrows bridge doesn't connect to Manhattan. You'd have to travel north into Jersey, and then take the Holland Tunnel to get there...

Not true. If you cross the Verrazano, you can take the BQE and you have a number of entries into the City.... ie the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, Brooklyn Battery Tunnel.... My question is with Tony and the guys. Why were they so fixated on the Verrazano which leads to Staten Island and zero chance to directly get into the City....except through Jersey via the Goethals Bridge, Outerbridge Crosing, Bayonne Bridge...and then the GWB, the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels... Why not spend your time screwing around on the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge...instead????? The latter bridges lead you into the City.

You are correct about the Varrazano-Narrows bridge connecting Brooklyn to Staten Island rather than to Manhattan.

However, the bridge is shown in the film since you can see it from most parks in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. When they are talking about "everything is different, right across the bridge," they are not implying it is the Varrazano Bridge. When he helps her move to Manhattan you see their car cross the Brooklyn Bridge which connects Brooklyn to Manhattan.
