How ironic.

I saw that this was a recommendation, and I clicked on it thinking, "What is this, a rip-off of Carrie?"

Though it turns out that it does star Piper Laurie.

Nice observation.

Ruby really doesn't have much else in common with Carrie aside from featuring Piper Laurie. I didn't like this film, personally.

Where is the irony to which you refer in your subject line?

I know, I know, Kimberly-Shaw. (And I hope your name is a reference to "Melrose Place.")

I think he/she meant to use the word "coincidental." For some reason people don't understand the difference between irony and coincidence. It bugs me.

Regarding Piper: I think she's terrific. Alas I've never had the pleasure of seeing "Ruby." The DVD is no longer available and last I checked Netflix wasn't streaming it.

A great cult film. You have to be a true fan of horror to appreciate.

Seems a bit more like The Exorcist to me, but it's still a fun enough movie.

Sure, there's an Exoricst element or two, but like the cult movies that Ruby plays at her drive-in, this is like a 50's movie transported to then modern times w/ some extra violence.

You have the creaky wind machines, the old school effects, this idea of the characters wanting to live in luxury (kind of like the Sally homemaker image, but more lux), mobsters and even a doctor offering some babble to make sense of it all. I think it's pretty spot on.
