Magic Mountain then and now

It is funny to look back in time when Magic Mountain was still young. There was hardly a single thing in the park. The hills were bare except for the grass covering them. Even the surrounding area of Valencia is undeveloped. If you look at the place now, there are houses covering the hillsides and the park itself is a tangle of coaster tracks.

Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park was shot there too, right? Around the same time, I believe.

It's amazing to me to remember how much excitement was generated by the upside down loop! No big deal today, but then, I think the Revolution was amongst the first rollercoasters to feature one.

I always thought Magic Mountain was in Disney World in Florida.

You're thinking of Space Mountain. That's a ride, not a park.

reply

OH yeah. That's right....thanks.

The Kiss movie was filmed in Busch Gardens in Van Nuys which at that point had been permanently closed

What a huge difference from then to now with the park. The hills were bare back then what a difference as time went by.

I remember being at Magic Mountain right about the time 'Rollercoaster' came out and thought that the 'Revolution' was the best rollercoaster ever(it was about the only coaster besides 'Gold Rush' in the park back then). It`s still a good ride but it`s pretty tame compared to what`s there now. Love that amusement park and I`ll watch 'Rollercoaster' every time I see on tv. Takes me back to my youth!

They sure did not have the Superman ride back then!

Its that man again!!

I thought Magic Mountain was part of Disneyland. Is it near Disneyland and speaking of Amusement Parks what is Knotts Berry Farm? Is that near Disneyland too?

reply

Magic Mountain, Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm & Universal Studios, 4 different theme parks.

MM is in Valencia, about an hour's drive north of LA. They also have a water park on site, and know for their thrilling roller coaters.

Disneyland is in Anaheim, about 45 minutes south of LA. Their second park, California Adventure opened in 2001, in the former parking lot.

Knotts is in Buena Park, which is a short drive from Dinseyland. They also have a water park.

Universal Studios is north of Hollywood. Along with the studio tour, you can 'ride' the movies as well. Jurrasic Park, Simpsons & Transofrmers that opened last year. They are also opening a version of Harry Potter land in a few years.

Someone above mentioned that Kiss filmed a TV movie here.

Don't forget that the end of National Lampoon's Vacation used MM too as Wally World.

Yes...nice to see Magic Mountain back in the day..only thing missing then is all the knuckleheads it attracts now..was a nice park first ten yrs. or so.

reply

It's when they started putting in all the rollercoasters that the knuckleheads arrived.
