First Film

This is the first film I ever saw in theaters. I was four years old, though I did see Star Wars just one month later, I would not turn five until September.

Both movies had a big impact on me I suppose that's what formative years do, they sop up our experiences like a sponge, and paint a wash over all our senses for years to come...

Don't blame me for any ensuing psychosis.

I have to mention that when I saw the film again, I was a bit disappointed. I loved the live action sequences, but it seems that those bits were the only thing i remembered from when i saw it as a little kid. I did love some of the dark elements of the animation, once the two dolls escape into the night. but some of those songs were just awful. So 70's and SO corny! Oh well, things can't always be as good as we remember them. I'm just happy that when I saw Disney's "Pinocchio" it turned out to be even better than i remembered it from my childhood. I like it more now than i did then; that is a true masterpiece..

Ya, some things were can never return to, and others are like opening a door back to our childhood, I'll have to watch Pinocchio again and see how I like it.

I remember it advertised, and while we didn't go to movies back then, I don't think it reached my area anyway, if it bombed so badly, but obviously I've never forgotten it.

Ii has since aired on tv, but I grew bored with it (obviously!), but still that childhood want to see it is still there.

I can't help but wonder if I had gone to the movies to see this back then. It's terrible, yes, but '77 was such a tumultuous time for me and all around me. Maybe this silly thing would have let my mind focus elsewhere, but now I'll never know.

That's a very interesting thing to ponder, I often ponder along those lines when it comes to certain things about my childhood I can't change, and wonder if I would have turned out better or different or worse if I had?

I wonder about other movies I would have liked at such a small age, like Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

My sister had a storybook of the movie, and believe it or not, I recall images from the movie pictured on a cardboard can of Nestlé's chococlate Quik.

I also had an activity book of the soccer match, I've since bought on Ebay.

Again, the movie came and went, and I didn't see it until probably almost twenty years later.

There may have never been an option for us to see this when we were little, for whatever reason, but I do wonder sometimes.

Other things, like Jaws, I don't recall much of anything about hearing about that one, and it's unlikely even with the offering I'd want to see that. Just not my idea of a film, I guess.

Good movie, but just not something I think I'd have wanted to see back then, given the choice.

I remember an advert for The Town That Dreaded Sundown, yes, a creepy subject matter movie, but it did intrigue me.

I think I would have never slept again had I seen that one. I've seen it since tho.

Ya, I think I remember that Nestle's Quick label actually...

I remember seeing the JAWS poster at the theater, and being told I was too young, which made it seem even cooler... of course.

I grew up watching Twilight Zone, Night Gallery... I loved stuff like that.
