Widescreen transfer?

I've been looking at buying this DVD for some time now and can't seem to find definitive information on the aspect ratio of the Ventura Distribution release of the film that came out in June 2004. On some websites it's listed as fullscreen and on others it is listed as widescreen. Can someone confirm?

Thanks!

If you're talking about the Somerville House region 1 that came out on June 1, 2004, it's widescreen. Has Cronenberg commentary and an interview (though that interview is also included on an earlier VHS release as well).

It's quite a nice DVD too. The only downside is that it's non-anamorphic.

there is a Region 2 UK DVD that is 16x9 widescreen.

I should stop dragging up dying threads! ;)

The UK release from Prism Leisure is true 16X9 anamorphic, though the runtime is only 86mins long rather than the release length of 91mins. Damn BBFC. So, you can get a true anamorphic, but there must be some cuts, since I've only ever watched this in the UK, I couldn't say what they are. Any ideas anyone?

Its not cut, not gore or nudity. But there is a 20 second scene missing because of print damage. The time is 86 minutes because of PAL speed up. PAL format which the UK DVD is runs 4% faster then NTSC DVDs so that's way the Time is a little shorter.

Heh, nice one, I never knew that! I used to wonder how the transfer was handles, and then I decided it wasn't worth worrying about!

For the record, I found this nice little description...

I fgound this referance the missing 2o secs of footage on DVDCompare.net...

'R2 United Kingdom - (Prism Direct/Leisure) - Yes - 86:50 min (PAL) - BBFC do not list any Cuts for this release, but the Rewind user Behemoth has confirmed that this release is missing 20secs of footage at 1:02:07 compared to New Concorde's R1 release. The missing footage consists of a conversation on a parking lot between a cop and Joe Silver and Frank Moore's characters. The reason for the Cut may be print damage.'

So there ya go, you learn something new every day!
