These seemed really garish and out of place with the rest of the film, showing silhouettes and high contrast scenes from the film. Does anyone know if these were the originals with the film, or were they added for DVD release?

I don't know for sure but I think they were in the original film. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (another Italian film with similar qualities) does the same thing and that was released before 'Inglorious' so it's not a question of if they had the technology to do it.
I really enjoyed the title sequence. Very operatic.
