very dissapointing...to me at least

i preordered this movie bc of Quentin's recomendation lol and thought that if he were making a new movie somewhat inspired by this one that this one should be pretty good. It turned out be a boring, cheesy, bad action movie. I dont usually call movies boring, even long ones, but this was only 1 hr 30 and it seemed twice as long as There Will be blood or the Godfather. Anyway, i dont mean to insult people who like this movie, but i hope that Quentin's new movie is an actual movie. and hopefully somewhat good.

Check out some of the movies from Tarantino's Rolling Thunder video release series. They include pieces of crap like "Curdled" and "Switchblade Sisters." The guy's got weird taste and I've long since learned not to watch movies on his recommendation.

I'm not surprised there's so much violence in this country. I'm surprised there's so little.

reply

True, all of the Rolling Thunder series was crap, except for Chungking Express.

reply

the only thing he found so interesting about this movie was the storyline. the bare narrative that inspired him. I dont think he's too fond of the cheesy actions scenes or the amateurish editing.

just the idea of a group of soldiers in between the two waging war fronts was a weird idea i guess.

reply

I don't know about that, the plot was hardly original. Just a Dirty Dozen ripoff. I think he WAS indeed fond of the 'cheesy action scenes', it is well known that Tarantino loves campy, low-budget films like this.

reply

Actually that's exactly why he likes it. Tarantino loves cheesy action editing done on the run. It's the way virtually all Hong Kong films and many cheap Italian films are edited and we all know how much Tarantino loves Hong Kong movies and cheap Italian romps. You people in here seem to know next to nothing about Tarantino and his taste in films.

reply

Exactly, and that's why his films are the way the are.

reply

Seems lately he's turned into a cheesy, brain damaged screw off just dumping on the sorry, ennui enthralled fan base.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

reply

You make a movie like Pulp Fiction an get back to us genius

reply

" I dont think he's too fond of the cheesy actions scenes"

Listen to his commentary with Edgar Wright on the Hot Fuzz DVD, this is exactly the type of film he likes.

reply

You are correct man, QT actually "likes" cheesy films etc. It is sad to me that he couldnt come up with an actual original movie concept for his current upcoming film, but oh well.

Ummm, what was wrong with either one of those films? They certainly were not crap. Particularly Curdled. That was a great film.

I'm just a guy that likes horror flicks.

reply

Switchblade sisters was amazing! So was this... Some of you guys just hate on older films, hate to see what you'd think of gems like Class of 84' and Massacre At central High

reply

I've only turned 2 movies off in the history of my watching movies. Inglorious bastards was one. Undead was the other one. This was definitely disappointing. Tarantino isn't remaking this (thank god) he's just stealing the title.

reply

Don't bet on it.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

reply

Don't bet on what -- that Tarantino isn't remaking the movie?

We already know the plot of Tarantino's movie and it's different from this one.

I like this movie and I expect to like Tarantino's, but they're two different movies.

I'd like it much more if it were 3 different movies.

reply

Wow I'm sorry OP that you are repressed and hate fun movies.. This movie has a good story, great action scenes, cool dialouge, and yea it is a little cheesy. Its a fun movie, obviously OP doesn't know what fun is if he watches 'There Will Be Blood'

reply

there was an interview/conversation on the dvd that i watched with both quentin and enzo where, between acting like a spaz and dropping f-bombs (classic), quentin professed to loving both the storyline AND the action sequences, so just as an fyi

Can no-one just enjoy a bad movie for being a bad movie anymore?

It's not like I was expecting a masterpiece when watching this film... it's a B-movie, I just wanted lots of over-the-top, low-budget action sequences and a bit of a laugh.

Delivered.

The problem with Tarrantino making this... is that re-making a B-movie on a hollywood budget is never going to re-create that 'we made this for the hell of it' feel... Seems pointless... like much of QT's work of late.

reply

I totally agree with everything you say misled....'cept for the part where you imply that QT is remaking IG. He is not. His is a totally different story that just happens to share a similar name. But I agree with your point about enjoying movies.

SoundOfConfusion <this --- Thumbs up to you too, sjmills1 :)

Exactly what I was thinking - can't anyone just be happy with the folly of a spaghetti WWII movie. I think it was brilliant. Especially the scenes where the nazis are flying through the air, clearly being pulled on a wire. Haters, please pull your heads out of your collective asses.

*spoiler below*

Really? That's odd. I was hooked from the bold opening graphics. I enjoyed everything about it; the goofy little Italian guy, the whole anachronism of Fred Williamson's Superfly type character, the audio that had a wonderful, realistic movie theater sound like it was coming from an old mono system with a slight bit of distortion, the cleverly cheesy slo-mo, etc. The only thing that made me cringe was the one actor who looked like Ryan O'Neal and sounded like he thought it was really hot *beep* I don't remember his character's name - the one who ended up with the hot chick. He's somebody I'd like to punch in the mouth, and I've never hit anyone in my life.

reply

I agree with the OP. I bought this since QT was recommending it but I found it just bad...cheesey, badly made Euro-trash. QT's movie was only slightly better too IMHO.
