The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover on DVD

Good afternoon, maniacs. A great movie of Larry Cohen's, The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover, is in dire need of a DVD release. It's available on VHS but is rather hard to come by. It is Larry's favorite movie that he's done and he'd really like for it to be out on DVD to open up a new audience to it as well as for fans of the film to own it on that format. As a fan, friend, & admirer of Larry and his work, I'd like to help him accomplish this goal. Here's where we come in. We need to convince Sony that they need to put this movie out on DVD. It's received pretty good reviews and has a good bit of fans. I don't see why it isn't out yet.

Anyway, here's what we do: we email Mr. David Bishop at Sony Home Entertainment telling him that we'd like to see this classic out on DVD. Email Mr. Bishop at [email protected].

Please send out an email. It doesn't take that long. And please be polite about it. Make your voices heard!

I love that line. " A man doesn't have much in the way of morality unless he's scared of somebody and I gave em somebody to be scared of."

on 1/1/09, after reading your message, i sent this email:

Dear Mr. David Bishop,

I am writing to you on this New Year's Day holiday to urge you to release Larry Cohen's The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover for a new generation and on new media. I have wanted to see this film for years, ever since I heard Mr. Cohen state in an interview that this was his favorite film that he's done. Sony has not released this on DVD, my and many other people's preferred format. I would like to see this movie given a proper re-release, but I would even settle for seeing it streamed on Netflix, just as last night I watched another film that has not been released on DVD, Rolling Thunder. I think Netflix is providing a great service to movie fans by offering rare films for instant viewing. Your title doesn't have to be rare, and a new print with DVD extras and a commentary track would be great, but at the least you can offer this for legal online viewing.

and guess what? i just checked, and it's now available to watch online at netflix.
