Rooting for the dogs

Am I the only one that rooted for the dogs? I saw this at a drive in back in the 70's and I felt so bad for the dogs!

I'm only about 5 mins into it and came here to see what people had to say. The father just tied the boy's dog to a tree and said "someone will probably come along and take him in". I wanted to tie him to a tree. I'm going to try watching it again, but after reading your post and other similar ones, I don't know if it will be worth it. I hate when people treat animals like they are inanimate objects. I wanted to be entertained tonight, not screaming at the screen.

Weird they didn't just take it to the pound or something. (I know it could still be euthanized but still...)

I was as well. I usually do in these kinds of movies, because the problems almost always start after some stupidity from the humans.

I was not rooting for the dogs but I did feel sorry for them. I also felt sorry for the humans, too and I think the movie does a good job at helping the viewer do this. Yes, I got angry at the man who abandoned the dog, but that is what the movie was about and moved the story along in helping the viewer to understand how bad such a thing is for both the animals and the humans.
