I started cheering when... *spoilers*

...when Larry and Noelle were executed. These were some of the most annoying, self-absorbed, neurotic characters I've ever watched on film and I was more than happy to see 'em both go. I was rooting for Cathy (Sarandon) the entire time!

Same here! Though one might feel pity for the circumstances of her youth, there is no denying that Noelle is a bit of a nutjob, to put it mildly, and Larry is a sociopath. I could hardly believe it when I heard Sidney Sheldon state (in the DVD extras) proudly that he would get letters from women saying they named their daughters after this character. What??!! That's like naming your daughter after Lucretia Borgia.
Sheldon sounds as if he sees Noelle as some kind of strong femle literary character like Scarlett O'Hara, but to my eye she and Larry were really monsters in a horror story. Their fates couldn't have been more justified.

Had this story been in America, they would have been convicted of attempted murder. However, the circumstances would not have allowed this to come to fruition, due to the powerful Greek tycoon. I would have preferred that they both had gotten life with no parole, and for Susan Sarandon to visit her husband once for divorce purposes. I would have liked to have seen his face.

Yes, they were both bad, but Noelle was slightly more sympathetic than Larry. I kind of enjoyed the way that she clawed her way to the top solely in order to get her revenge and to see that this sociopathic loser is not let off the hook. Of course, she got soft and fell for him all over again, but still.

In the book, Noelle is a BIT more sympathetic because she gets involved in some WWII War espionage, working for the Resistance. She does it solely to rescue the Jewish doctor who nursed her back to health after her abortion...but still, she pulls off the assignment admirably.

She also had a sad, betrayed past (first at the hands of her father, then by Larry) so in the novel it's not like she's a COMPLETELY villainous figure.

By comparison, Larry is just a shallow, selfish JERK.
