Yes, they were both bad, but Noelle was slightly more sympathetic than Larry. I kind of enjoyed the way that she clawed her way to the top
In the book, Noelle is a BIT more sympathetic because she gets involved in some WWII War espionage, working for the Resistance. She does it solely to rescue the Jewish doctor who nursed her back to health after her abortion...but still, she pulls off the assignment admirably.
She also had a sad, betrayed past (first at the hands of her father, then by Larry) so in the novel it's not like she's a COMPLETELY villainous figure.
By comparison, Larry is just a shallow, selfish JERK.
