Question about scene near the end? (spoiler inside)

I could almost swear that many years ago, I either saw a scene or read a book in which the lady protagonist (Noelle?) was about to be executed. Some nuns came to her cell and offered to give her an enema. When she asked what the purpose of the enema was, they tactfully explained it would prevent her from being "embarrassed" after her execution. She then agreed to the enema. Was that from this movie or the book, or am I think of some other story?

I just looked at the book and you are correct. It's on the second to the last page. Good memory you have! Just it's a nurse and the warden, not nuns.

If it were me, I couldn't care less. Let the executioners be embarrased by the "waste," they can take it as a gift from me to them! You can't be embarrased if you're dead.

It would be considerate to change the topic heading of your post - it gives away too much, or at least gives away a key suggestion. I would not have wanted to see that heading before watching the movie. This is why the concept of 'spoilers' exists. You may say that your heading does not give away much, but for someone who is halfway through the film, or even someone who is good at guessing, your heading itself is a major spoiler.

It's not in the movie; it was in the book only. The way Noelle behaved from her conviction until her execution was very unrealistic. And what happened to Cathie at the end was very unbelievable too. Really poorly written script!

I loved the book. The ending was truly a big surprise.
