Should 'The Other Side of Midnight' be remade?

I will love "The Other Side of Midnight" forever, even if the critics thought that it was a huge flop compared to "Star Wars" back in 1977. Does any "Other Side" fan out there think that this movie should be remade, and if so, who would be perfect for the roles of Noelle, Larry, and Catherine? If I had to choose who would be perfect for the roles, I would choose the following:

Noelle Page ... Audrey Tautou, Kristin Scott Thomas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Eva Green, or Keira Knightley

Larry Douglas ... Russell Crowe, Gerard Butler, Daniel Craig, or Hugh Jackman

Catherine Douglas ... Kate Beckinsale, Gwyneth Paltrow, Maria Bello, or Rachel Weisz

P.S. Also, should there be a remake, then I think that composer Michel Legrand should come back and give us the same unforgettable score from the film itself!

They "could" remake it and I am sure the actors/actresses you named for the parts would be appropriate, but,....why bother?? WAIT! I take that back. I think that it should be remade, but as a comedy. Ironically, I am NOT joking when I suggest that. It could be comical-

For instance: Show Nicole as the agressor in pre WWII France; desperate for a man she drags a very nervous Larry into an apartment (actually, sort of what happens in real life a lot).

Catherine Douglas ... Kate Beckinsale, Gwyneth Paltrow, Maria Bello, or Rachel Weisz

A resounding NO! The Other Side of Midnight is a definitive masterpiece. I'm shocked it didn't win an academy award... It certainly deserved one!

I'm also really surprised the ratings for it on here are low. This is Sidney Sheldon's crowning achievement. The Betsy was good, too, but this film was far superior & is still richly engrossing.

Absolutely not, the essence of a classic cannot be recaptured.

I read the book when I was in middle school..as I read a lot of Sidney Sheldon's work. He kinda suffered from what I now call "Stephen King" syndrome. Books are great, movies....eh.... to gosh awful ....with few exceptions.

If they were to remake this for the big screen..they better hire one hell of a screenwriter. Noelle Page was not chopped liver and Catherine was much stronger than shown. Larry Douglas was a cad but more of a womanizing cad we never got to see on the screen, just hear about it. His time in the air fighting for countries just made him an egotistical, womanizing cad.

For me this would be in the bunch of "films to redo" now along with "Looking for Mr. Goodbar" (which I think Lindsay Lohan would be wonderful to star in and re-surge her career) and "The Sentinel" (the one where the model gets 'tricked' into guarding the gates of Hell).

If naught a good feature film screenwriter is found, then a remake of this, regardless of who is cast as what...will end up on Lifetime, WE or the Oprah Winfrey Network type movie of the month.

I completely agree, Lambiepie. The 1977 movie had the potential to be a classic, but bad writing killed it! I haven't read Sheldon's book, but I'm sure it presents a far more intelligent story. I find it hard to believe that so much money was spent on locations, wardrobe, period reenactment, flight scenes, etc., etc., only to have the movie nearly ruined by bad writing and poor dialogue.

I thought the original film had stellar writing.

The book was excellent. The movie followed closer to the book than a lot of movies did back then.

Considering this is a forgotten movie, I would rather see it remade than a blockbuster classic.

These kinds of epic "torn from the pages of the searing best seller!" soap operas were going out of style even when "Other Side" was made. They're not even made as TV miniseries anymore. No one would remake this, save (as one commenter above suggested) perhaps as a spoof.
