Unlikeable Main Character (Possible Spoilers)

I was interested to see this when it popped up on my schedule. I generally like '70's TV movies (that's when I was a kid) and I specifically like Valerie Harper.

However, I found her character fairly unlikeable, especially once she started her road trip. In most of the situations she was placed in, she seemed to ask a lot of those around her. She wasn't pushy, but she wouldn't let up, either. For example:

1. In the motel room, once she learned her kid was in the hospital and she had to leave, she was quite short with the operator. The operator, doing her a favor, asked if they should transfer to an airline, VH said yes, the operator asked which one, and she snapped back, "I don't know! The one that goes to Denver!", as if the operator should know which airlines go where. She also gave the operator stick for there being snow in Denver. Ok...

2. On the run, she stops at the hot dog stand/gas station and has no problem first trying to wake everyone up in the middle of the night, then breaking in and vandalizing the place in order to get gas. She left money to pay, but that's not the point. It's the "my problems are more important than your stuff" attitude.

3. Same thing later at the house of the old couple: "Can you drive me? Can your kid drive me? Can I have your truck?" Me, me, me.

Another thing, she should have realized, with a murderous maniac chasing her, that everyone she pulled into her situation was immediately put in danger. We certainly saw that with the drunk man, and who knows if he did anything to the old couple.

Boundaries, lady! Don't drag others into your hot mess if it's going to get them killed, and just because your kid is in the hospital (and it didn't even sound serious), that doesn't mean you get a free pass to break into things and blow things up that aren't yours.

I found her actually to be polite. She said please and thank you a lot, and was kind to the homeless man in the gas station. And of course there was her beautiful smile! :)

Yes, she was curt in those situations, but if a killer were chasing me AND my baby was in the hospital, I would be curt too. When you are that desperate, there is no time to wait around.

Spoiler alert: The killer and the old couple's son ARE THE SAME PERSON! If he did anything to the couple, then he murdered his own parents!

Sarah, I think you may have misinterpreted the final act. He was not the couple's son. He probably came upon the couple's house after his car broke down (the car he was in was on its last legs and probably gave out), and took the truck. Whether or not he needed to even go into the old couple's home first is debatable (so they may still be alive), but you see he doesn't have the key for the truck, which is how she figures out he's not the couple's son.
