WTF is Disney thinking??????

I'm sure you've heard about this, and I'm still asking myself--in bigger letters than this: "WHY?" In Disney's latest update of the classic A.A. Milne stories of Pooh Bear, Christopher Robin and their pals from the enchanted world of The Hundred Acre Wood, not only will the traditional, hand-drawn animation transcend to the new-fangled CGI-style, but Christopher Robin will be: A girl!
Apparently some recent studies were made that showed that there were less female characters in kids' movies and cartoons or something like that. I'm not sure if changing C. R.'s gender is associated with this, wonder who'll be next to get the gender change--Eeyore (suffering from menopause perhaps?)
But really, I don't think kids care about gender politics.

OMG! Is this a joke? where'd you here this?

And that is why Jesus was referred to as the King of Kings. Queens. The King of Queens.

reply

Nope...no joke. A 2007 cg cartoon series will be released, and Chris Robin will not be the human of the story, but an as of yet unnamed tomboyish girl.

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

Don't blame it all on disney -- it has something to do with copyrights, and Christopher Robin's daughter regaining some of the copyright, and Disney is no longer allowed to use Christopher Robin as a character.

"The Wookie has no pants."

reply

Regardless as to who is responsible, Disney is making it and they can say "no". I for one will vote with my money and say no to this crap. Female lead in a "Winnie the Pooh" movie? What is the world comming to. So long Pooh, it has been a fun ride up until now.

reply

Why don't they just introduce a new character?

I mean changing memorable and loveable characters completely is the devil's work.

Stuff like this reminds me of "Movie Poop Shoot.com" from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

I used to think Rabbit was a girl...yeah.

If this girl does "grace" the screen, she will probably be called Robin.

WHY, DISNEY? WHY?! Why couldn't they have made the heffalump character Lumpy a girl or something?

reply

They will probably explain it away in the cartoon as Christopher Robins granddaughter. Christopher grew up but the others couldn't as they were only toys.

And yeah, I thought Rabbit was a girl too. It was only this year that I found out.

reply

I used to always think that rabbit & piglet were girls.

reply

yeah and for the longest time I actually thought Eeyore was a girl becuase of the bow on his tail... either way he's still my favourite.

For the record Wikipedia states the girl is not replacing Christopher Robin...

In December 2005, Disney announced that Pooh's friend and owner Christopher Robin would be replaced by a 6-year-old "tomboyish" red-haired girl for the future Disney Channel animated television series, My Friends Tigger & Pooh[4].Contrary to published reports, Darby has not replaced Christopher Robin, who will still appear intermittently in the series.

reply

oh good, at least he will still appear. I saw the previes for the series just now and freaked out! it looks really lame... tigger and Pooh like become sleuths or something. I also didn't see Roo, Rabbit, Kanga, or Owl.

reply

That's really weird, though, even if it's not true, because I have this old book with a bunch of rhymes from when I was five, and one is a poem about a child aging. ("When I was one, I had just begun. When I was two, I was hardly new") There was a picture of Pooh jumping, and next to him was who appeared to be Christopher Robin, only he just looked like a girl; he shoulder length hair, his shirt was long and he had on tight shorts with buckled shoes. He just looked like a girl, and it always has and always will confuse the crap out of me.
