Opening Sequence

From what I remember, Tigger is absent in the opening storybook sequence and consequentially the theme song, too. Does anyone know why they didn't include him?

reply

Well, it would just mess up the music and lyrics to the song.

It's because the opening is taken from the original 1966 short, and Tigger wasn't in the first short. Piglet was featured in that intro though, I'm not sure why-- he wasn't in the original short either.

According to the trivia section from IMDb, it states
"The character of Gopher (not in the book, but at your service) was originally included to replace the original 'A. A. Milne' character, Piglet. The studio eventually reinstated Piglet in the second featurette, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968)."

Tigger isn't in the original opening because he wasn't in the Hundred Acre Woods yet. He 'moved' there after, in one of the parts of the movie, and a few chapters into the book that the movie is based off as well.

Gopher's not in the opening either despite appearing in the first featurette (is that how it's spelt?). Why is this?
