I just viewed this movie on YouTube and the shocking ending was quite different from the version I had seen when I rented the VHS tape years ago. In that version, Tom Berenger's character again raged with much the same dialogue but then he suddenly struck her on the head with the lamp and killed her.

The limited edition collectors anniversary French blu-ray version also contains an alternate ending in which Tom Berenger dances around the apartment doing an inspired Carmen Miranda impression as Diane Keaton brings herself to orgasm by rubbing the scoliosis scar on her back. Apparently test audiences did not like this ending so it was changed.

So good to hear that they dropped that ending and went with one that was more crowd-pleasing.

quormi...I just wrote about that in another thread. That's the ending I saw on TV many, many years ago when I was younger. The one I saw on TCM the other night was shocking and disturbing, I never saw that before.
