'Who are you...who are you...who are you...?'

That's my favorite moment in the movie, and one of my favorite movie moments of all time.
Charlie's asking us that question, everyone individually in the audience, as much as he is David.

"I'll tell you something if you won't think I'm crazy...I've got grasshoppers taped to my back."

Definitely a piercing (for lack of a better word) scene. It's almost hypnotic in a way, or at least he seems to hypnotize David.

So have a good drown as you go down all alone, dragged down by the STONE... stone...
stone... stone... stone... stone... stone... stone... stone... stone... stone... stone... stone... stone... stone... stone... stone... stone...

I had to MST3k that scene. "You know, you'll never win 20 questions if you use all your questions like that..." "I'd answer if you'd stop asking!"

You're right. I think it was deliberately constructed that way to highlight the other worldliness of Charlie (and perhaps David).

Yes! He speaks to something very deep within us all..
