Relatively unknown in the UK

I remember first coming across The Kentucky Fried Movie which was on VHS video in Blockbuster before it went bust, thirteen years ago. I had vaguely heard of it but knew nothing about it. Upon reading r=what it was about on the rear end of the cover and learning it was the Zucker's that were behind and it I figured it was worth giving a shot. While not quite a patch on their legendary Airplane I was glad that I had decided to have watched it. A few of the jokes did fall flat and it was a bit ragged around the edges but overall it a good, solid spoof on the theatrical movie going experience ie. The Catholic Schoolgirls in Trouble scene stands out straight away.

Unfortunately this still remains fairly obscure in my native UK although you can purchase in on Region 2 DVD. I recall sitting with three friends of mine years ago in my parents living room and mentioning the movie and it just so happened one of them had actually seen it. He told me about the amount of people he'd told about it who hadn't seen or even heard of it. Seems like the two of us were something of a rare breed. A shame as while not perfect it does deserve more recognition over here than what it receives.

There's a great Arrow Video DVD release of the film in the UK. Purely being released by Arrow means that the film gains new fans, particularly from a cult film audience. It's how I found out about it!

Obscure perhaps for your age range!

Not for us over 40s
