As Much as I Despise Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave...

I must admit this is a great film. A friend - who likes both actresses - introduced me to it a few months ago. He bought me the DVD for Christmas and I have watched it at least five times.

It's probably the best acting Fonda or Redgrave did. Jason Robards and Maximillian Schell were also excellent. Even though the story is likely total fiction, it is nonetheless riveting.

An extremely well-made film, despite my personal disdain for Fonda and Redgrave. A great film is a great film, and Julia is indeed a great one.

That is so funny - my friend who got me hooked to Julia raved about that TV movie. It was his birthday on Saturday and I bought him the DVD of Playing for Time. We will watch it together eventually. Funny.

It's a good movie, even though a large part of it pure invention. The invented part, btw, is where Hellman puts herself in the story. The 'Julia' story happens to be true. Hellman heard the story from her lawyer, who was also friends with 'Julia' (who didn't die). That's where she got the story, and presumably where she inserted herself into it.
