Footjob

Just wondering if anyone can put me right on something. There's a scene in Jabberwocky where Michael Palin is talking to a beggar who has chopped off one of his feet with a hatchet (it's already happened by the time Pain meets him). The scene on the DVD (and the previous VHS) ends with the Palin turning down the beggar's offer to join him and do the same, and the beggar says "well, what a golden opportunity he's missing", or something like that. Now, I'm sure that the first time I saw this movie, on BBC2 years and years ago when I was about 12, the scene went on fractionally longer and ended with the beggar just really casually chopping off his OTHER foot too. Has anybody else ever seen that, or am I mis-remembering? You see the beggar again later and he has indeed got both his feet severed, but on TV, tape and DVD I've never again seen him actually cut the second foot off.

Maybe my memory just filled in the gap. Anybody?

Just watched the DVD version film this lunchtime.

It may have been different on the TV, but in the DVD, the scene ends where you say it does with the beggar saying that Dennis has missed a golden opportunity. However, later in the film as Dennis and the Knight are riding out of the city you see the beggar a second time, cheering them on. In this scene he has cut his other foot off - it's not mentioned, but it is a little visual joke (it made me laugh anyway).

Maybe it was the case in the original broadcast/cut that you saw him start to chop his other foot off, but IMHO it works better as a small visual gag.

Yeah - I remember the scene.
I've also seen the movie on TV. The beggar clearly chopped off his other foot, too. (As far as I remember in front of Palin)
But I have to to admit it's been quite a long time since I've seen the movie - I must have been around 11 or 12 or so, too.
Wonder, why it's been cut out in the DVD version...

Greetings,
Florian

Sometimes when they cut a movie for tv they end up too short on time and add otherwise cut scenes to pad it back out.
