Leiningen vs the Ants


If anyone remembers it, there is a famous short story about a farmer somewhere in South America. Down there they have a real problem with some REAL ants. Those ants occasionally go nuts and swarm, eating everything they can surround.

This movie appears to be heavily influenced by this story. Everything from the kerosene to digging the moat..

Just so you know, the story is a good one. Read it. It's better than this movie anyway.

Charlton Heston in The Naked Jungle (1954) is also indebted to the radio show Leiningen versus the Ants. William Conrad played Heston's part in the radio version and is also in the movie with Heston.
