Which species of ants?

Hi folks,
I wonder which species of ants they used. Any idea, anyone?
Obviously it must be a not too aggressive species...

Hmm... probably just regular North American black garden ants? It's hard to determine since there's over 1,000 ant species. I don't think the crew would have used an aggressive species, though.

Hello,
that's quite possible, thanks for the suggestion!
And do you know which species of ants they use today? I think I know it:
"Formica microsofta animationis hollywoodensis spp."
Doesn't bite, isn't venomous, doesn't even tickle the actor's skin - but is discernible on half a mile's distance as being artificial computer-made crap...
(In parenthesis: One of those effects which still aren't technically perfect is the depiction of burning objects, like houses, etc. - you still can easily distinguish whether the house, oil tank, haystack, whatever, is actually on fire and there's real black smoke, or whether the smoke clouds are artificially generated!)
As to nasty REAL little animals of all sorts: All my respect to the actors who had to work with them in the old days!!
