Olive Blu-ray

The Olive Blu-ray release looks very good. A few scenes are a little blurry and show their age, but they're brief, and in many scenes, the detail is terrific.

But as usual with Olive, there are no extras at all. I'd like to see some kind of commentary, especially on the subject of the screenplay, which departs from Euripides a great deal. For instance, Odysseus, who's really important in the film, is not present at all in the original play. And the different ways the chorus gets adapted here are interesting too. Much of Euripides' poetry gets omitted, and in some scenes that's fine, but elsewhere the intensity of the original is diminished by cutting so much text. --Anyway, it would be nice to hear some discussion on the director's choices. Maybe a future release will include some material like this . . .
