I too watched this movie years ago. I seem to remember that it was shown over two nights,in two seperate parts. Is this how you remember it? Also, have you seen it on cable or VHS? It is much shorter with many scenes missing.
I've been searching for the DVD for ages. Can't believe a movie with such an impressive cast is nowhere to be found. The ending battle scene is beyond spectacular and is my all-time fave battle scene. Any word on a DVD??
The Australian DVD is widescreen but has no extras and is the standard theatrical cut of the film rather than the extended TV version with the additional battle scene and alternative ending.

Wow it is great to see people are still watching this film. When we filmed it the original was four hours long and they cut it to two hours for the thearter which did the film no justice at all. There is actually a great cast in this film.
It'd be great if the longer version cropped up sometime. Granada Ventures hold the rights in the UK, and they did a two-disc version of The Eagle Has Landed a couple of years ago that included a remastered version of the two-and-a-half hour TV version in widescreen as well as the theatrical version. The only problem, as you know, is that the film lost so much money that they'd probably decide it wasn't worth the time and money. But you never know...

Actually the film was huge in Germany and other countries.Yhere was a network showing of the four hour version a few years back I will try to find out if there is a long version in America.I will be speaking to Elliott Kastner next week and I will ask him.
Sadly, sometimes the footage for extended TV versions isn't in good condition. Fox wanted to put the extra scenes from the TV version back into The Towering Inferno, but they could only find fullframe versions with very variable picture quality, a problem some other extended cuts for TV have had. Sadly preserving that kind of footage was never regarded as a priority back in the 70s.

The U.K. release was on the budget Prism label (may now be deleted) but avoid unless you`re really desperate as it`s panned-scanned.I`d certainly buy a nice widescreen version of this film with the option of watching the tv version or the theatrical cut.I`m sure there`s a Swedish version around at the moment as well.Does anyone know the details?
Apart from Australia, both Sweden and Spain have released this in widescreen, stated running times are 103 mins. and 102 mins. respectively.
Have a look on eBay for shop DaaVeeDee or DaaVeeDeeUK, they have a whole bunch of the Swedish ones on sale. I could be tempted as, knowing the widescreen exists, my Dutch release pan & scan seems increasingly redundant....
