Surprised no one has pointed out the similarities between this movie and

'The Bad Seed.'

They were both about disturbed little girls who may or may not have murdered someone they were jealous of. Throughout the film various 'enemies' of the girls get murdered and the audience never quite knows who is behind it. There is even a cross/medal that has been taken from the original murder victim that acts as a big clue as to who the guilty party is.

Obviously 'Alice Sweet Alice' takes a turn about halfway through when it becomes a bit of a slasher but for the first half hour of 'Alice' I was convinced that it was a remake of The Bad Seed.

Anyway, they are both great films worth checking out. Both actresses who play the young devils are creepily awesome.

I really liked THE BAD SEED and have seen it several times.
Yes, both movies are along the lines of 2 little psycho girls being the main characters.
Many differences though too.

The movies are similar, except that the killer in this movie is not a child.

Yeah many differences for sure, both great films though.

I would absolutely have to name the bad seed, don't look now, and the spell (for its genre mostly) if I had to try and explain this movie using a references that come to mind. But only in regards to its young protagonist and the creepy antagonistic grounds keeper/ landlord. We've got to remember with the B.S. the concept of nature versus nuture was new. People generally thought gentiles bred gentiles and ladies with a few exceptions. The difference is actually the entire movie. Rhoda did kill everyone when most thought her sweet and innocent. Alice killed no one yet admittedly at every murder I suspected it would finally be her that did it. Which was never the case. Despite constantly being shown throughout the movie that Alice was indeed treated different. A few examples are when Catherine and both daughters walk in Father's Tom's place he kisses only Catherine and Karen. The aunts condescending bordering violent behavior. Coming between mother and young mentally troubled girl. We are shown we need to know this when Catherine has a flashback lying in bed.Twice we're shown her being dissed the host and not knowing why. I'd love to read the book and see if they are revisiting nature/nuture. We now know troubled children need a softer touch in some ways. I have no doubt that today Alice would be diagnosed with some form of ADD

i thought you were going to say "Don't Look Now"

I saw Don't Look Now years ago but don't really remember it (other than the fact that it took place in Venice and that I found it really boring) but a few people have mentioned how similar they are - can you elaborate a little? I honestly have no idea what the connections are...

I didn't know at the time that ASA had been inspired by DLN, but I immediately thought of it when I watched Alice. You're right though bc it's only the little girl dies, yellow rain coat spooky face thing. I read (wiki???) later that they had been inspired by that. I'm a 60's/70's horror, psyc, scifi fan. Don't Look Now definitely takes its time, but it has Donald Sutherland in it, so the acting isn't bad. If you like that genre give it another try. Drink a glass of wine or something if it helps. Twist at the end is crazy!

Maybe I'm meaning to say influenced? ....

Both stories also feature someone getting their face rearranged with the sole of a woman's shoe.

You must not see many films.

Alice Sweet Alice reminded me a lot of The Bad Seed, even though the former goes more of a slasher route and the latter leans toward Psychological horror/thriller.
