The Version Currently on Shudder is Edited

I was resting and decided to put something on TV before I went back outside to finish mowing. I was going through Shudder and I noticed that they now have Alice, Sweet Alice in their library. I took this as a sign that it must have been recently remastered, as the DVD I have came from the tapes for the 1999 Anchor Bay version. So I put it on and I was correct, because they had restored the original Communion title and the picture looked like it had been cleaned up.

Then I noticed something else. Several parts of this version had been edited. For instance, the stabbing of the aunt has been edited. So have some of the scenes with Alphonsa. They also cut dialogue from the polygraph scene at the police station.

I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this. I thought it was really odd, considering the content on a lot of shows running on Shudder.

Sounds like somebody put up the TV edit rather than the R-rated version. If you have Amazon Prime, they have Alice Sweet Alice also (with that title). The quality is rough and not remastered, but it has the graphic violence you crave. I was actually surprised how grisly some of it was when I saw it for the first time recently.

I don't think it is a TV edit. To the best of my knowledge, none of the TV edits have ever been released under Communion title, not to mention this looked like a new remaster. I have the DVD the Amazon Prime video is sourced from. That's how I noticed the edits. I remembered most of the really messed murders and they were all cut. Especially the one of the priest, they cut that all to hell. Plus, the only time I know of this movie playing on TV recently was on TCM a few years ago and that was uncut.

I just found this so strange, as Shudder has never played anything censored like that. At least not that I've ever noticed.
