Nurse Diesel Rules

Despite the movie's flaws, Nurse Diesel is probably one of the most disturbing, funny characters around--I love every scene she's in. I'd go as far as to say that Cloris Leachman as N.D. even tops herself over Frau Blucher in Young Frankenstein.

reply

Hahahaha that's so true! This movie for me is only about Nurse Diesel! She rules! I love imitating the way she talks in the movie, it's sooo funny! :D

reply

Absolutely! Nurse Diesel is one of my favourite characters EVER. and you gotta love that bosom of hers.

reply

She looks alote like todays Clint Eastwood, and talks like him too. wouldnt you agree?

Nurse Diesel looks like Robert Duvall in drag...

reply

That's funny, but she does look like Robert Duvall in drag.

I always thought she looked like a man in drag, which is incredibly funny as she is an actual woman. To take so much woman out of a role means she's incredibly talented as an actor.

reply

Plus she's a beautiful woman. See 'Phyllis' or "North Avenue Irregulars" for further proof of her good looks. Better yet, check out her cameo in "Butch Cassidy" or the mom in "The Twilight Zone" TV series.

"I will not go down in history as the greatest mass-murderer since Adolf Hitler!" - Merkin Muffley

reply

That's also very funny, as I've always thought Nurse Diesel is one of the ugliest woman I've seen in my entire life. You could light matches on the harshness of her chin. I guess it's all the un-womanliness that gets to me, it's such a conflict between me knowing her being a woman and seeing the most un-feminine thing I've seen in my entire life. It does not compute. And yes, it still means Leachman is one helluvan actor to get away with it. And no, I just can't get it all out of my head and imagining her as a feminine beautiful woman.

reply

She was a finalist in Miss America.

reply

I would have to agree with you. As much as I enjoyed Frau Blucher in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, Cloris Leachman was just brilliant as Nurse Diesel in this film. She was hysterically funny with that grizzly bear type voice, the pointed breasts, and her kinky relationship with Harvey Korman's Dr. Montague. I love when she returns to Montague in the closet and she says, "That was Thorndyke...you're being too loud!" And he says he can't help it she's being too hard and she says, "I know you better than you know yourself...you live for bondage and discipline." Just hysterical!

Cloris is fantastic in Malcolm in the Middle too as his grandmother.

"dinner is at 8 o'clock. those who are tardy don't get fruit cup"

We went to pick up my best friend's brother one time, and he quoted the "fruit cup" line out of the blue. It was so hilarious, for we all busted out laughing. I thought we must be the only three people in the world that would all know exactly what that was from and why it was so funny!

Nurse Diesel is quite hilarious and very memorable. Cloris Leachman was superb in the role. In fact, I think she is why this movie is a fan favorite. I know that, as a child watching this on television, she is the reason the film resonated with me and remained in my mind for many years. I became a fan of Mel Brooks because of High Anxiety and Nurse Diesel...not to mention the classic homage to The Birds!

This is one of the one liners that my family uses and has used for years. Cloris Leachman and Harvey Korman are for sure two of our best actors ever. Sometimes I wonder if Cloris Leachman enjoyed making this film.......she looks like she could be a dominatrix.......LOL! And those pointed breasts. They don't make em like this anymore, do they?

reply

My favorite Diesel line too. I also like the tea scene where she and Montague are hatching the evil scheme and says to him: "Gimme a cookie!"

reply

I liked near the beginning, when Brooks character arrives at the institution. Everyone tries to warn him, but Nurse Diesel snaps their name. They each heel like an obedient dog, even though everyone is bigger than her.

I love the bit with Montague (Harvey Korman) when he says "I get so hot when you're bad..." Then Diesel does this wierd swoon into his arms (and you can tell Cloris is just about to crack up) and he carries her off... Hysterical. I also love "Meet me in my room tonight" "No, not tonight, I'm too tired" "I'll let you wear my underwear" "I'll be there."

I may have quoted the first bit wrong, but it cracks me up everytime. While we're talking about favourite bits, love Madeline Kahn's "Close the dooor (breathe) (breathe) (breathe)" The look on her face is classic. And of course "Well, lets say for the sake of argument, cock-ie doodie."

Indeed, Nurse Diesel is Miss Leachman's greatest and most unforgettable performance-

Her death scene is the funniest thing in the whole movie to me.

It's totally random and extremely hilarious.

reply

The way she laughs is absolutely hilarious

I watched this the other night with my family; my granddaughter thought Nurse Diesel was played by Kristen Scott Thomas. OUCH!

Cloris Leachman is brilliant as Nurse Diesel. One of her funniest performances ever.

I also love Nurse Diesel and use her quotes frequently.

"Those who are tardy do not get fruit cup."

"Give me a cookie."

"It sucks."

"I know you won't."

"He wanted to change the drapes in the psychotic game room."
