The Lancia

The trivia section states that the Lancia was a 1977 Lancia Montecarlo. In fact it is the sister car of the Montecarlo called the Scorpion.

The Lancia Scorpion is derived from the Lancia Montecarlo. The car is so called because the name Montecarlo was already used in America by Chevrolet.

The Scorpion differs from the Montecarlo in a number of ways:

Smaller engine (1800 cc) because the 2 liter unit in the Montecarlo had not passed smog tests.

Different bumper (fender) configuration to meet American crash tests.

Pop-up headlights

Solid rear buttresses (Montecarlos had glass inserts except for the very early models)

Unlike the Montecarlo, only one production run of Scorpions was made. A total of 1801 were produced between 1976 and 1977.

I happen to think that the Lancia Montecarlo / Scorpion is one of the most beautiful cars ever made, anyone agree?

Great info. I always found that Lancia to be very cool also.
The fact that it should be female is somewhat believable right?

Quick fact: the original Lancia, Giselle, is owned by Doug Kaufmann of Rockwell, Texas.

That car must have gone through menopause by now.

There are more than ONE CAR used in the movie. I owned one, rescuing it 2 weeks befor Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. Sadly I had to leave it in Washington State when I immigrated to the UK. Doug isnt the only owner of a Giselle...although, his was the MAIN car used in the film. I supposidly owned the car used in long shots and racing scenes.

Fun things...so underpowered, and usually need lots of work! But a fabulous project car...just wish I could have brought her with me! :)

I actually owned one of the Lancia's they used in the movie. It was a 1976 Scorpion as GuyAdamsG3-1 points out. I was the third owner and had the original paperwork that showed Disney studios purchased the car from a dealership in Van Nuys, CA. I had fixed the car up pretty nice and sold it to a guy who shipped it to Austrailia where he told me these cars were very popular. The original purchase price I believe was around $15,000 and something. I bought the car in 1988 for $3,500 and sold it for $5,000. Its hard to find people to work on these cars but they really are a blast to own.

I WISHD ID HAD SOME DAY MONTECARLO

It's too bad that it wasn't a Lancia Montecarlo, though, as that gives a nice double meaning to the film's title.
